We need your help.
Manufacturing is an important part of our state’s economy. Currently, Mississippi is home to 2,800 manufacturers, employing 145,000 people and providing more than 12 percent of the entire state’s jobs. But as you know, the industry is facing many challenges — global competition, retiring baby boomers, negative stereotypes — which only increases the need to spread the truth about today’s manufacturing.
That’s where we can help. The Dream It. Do It. message is simple. Whatever energizes young people — be it cars or computers, music or movies, outdoors or outer space — they can find a great career doing it in today’s manufacturing. But, in order to attract Mississippi’s best and brightest to one of manufacturing’s many exciting sectors — from biotechnology to computer software — we need your help.
Recent studies show that more than 80% of manufacturers nationwide say their biggest problem is finding qualified workers. The Mississippi Manufacturers Association conducted a statewide survey of manfacturers that identified the need for a high-performance workforce as the No.1 key for business success in the future. This shortage of workers could have a serious impact on our nation’s and our state’s economy. Even in today’s difficult economic times, the New York Times recently reported on a Conference Board study that shows available jobs in engineering, physical science, computer science and mathematical science exceeding the available labor pool.
We invite you to partner with us in our effort to attract passionate workers who are ready to make a difference. In fact, your active participation is key to the success of Dream It. Do It. in our state. Find out more about Dream It. Do It. Mississippi by visiting the other pages on this Web site for students/jobseekers, parents and educators.
